Lots of these new folks are economic populists--meaning left of "liberal"
Ezra Klein explains what doofus pundits on television don't want to admit: Lots of economic populist Democrats were elected yesterday. Economic populists are to the left of liberal.

Corporate media spin is still spinning right, not left--nor even liberal. There is still lots of work to do.

First I want to say congrats for the Dems victory :) Hurray! Finally! I was disheartened after 04, but now feel as if a weight has been lifted. In my view GW and the Republicans created such a pervasive environment of fear that even I, a white middle-aged republican male, became increasing afraid of my own country. Afraid that one day I or just about anyone could fall victim to these Macevelian, McCarthy loving, fascist. Over their reign I have become completely disgusted by the Republicans. For years I listened to their fact free zone talk radio programs, from which their hatred of immigrants and gays spewed, waiting for them to reveal that it was all just a spoof, a Daily Show satirical skit. I listened in complete disbelief and horror. Today Rush Limbaugh said that the Democrats won “with nothing”! “They had no program, no plan for success; they only won by being against the Republicans.” Rush if you’re right then your guys must have been pretty god awful to lose to a bunch of people that by your measure had nothing. I always prided myself on voting for candidates based on merit not party, but starting in the 04 election I pledged to never vote for a Republican again! Rush, you can thank yourself and the rest of the Republican Party for that. Mitchell you are right there is still much work to do and we need to hold the Democrats feet to the fire, but I’ll take a left leaning, tax raising, peace loving, tie-dye wearing Democrat any day over these crazy right-wing fundamentalist. Thank god they are gone and let’s keep it that way!
