The Official Story in Argentina
This is chilling reminder of the sort of cruelty and deception our nation endorsed in Latin America during the 1970s and 1980s.
This film, "The Official Story" (1985) had laid out the issue in a brilliant and dramatic manner. That most Americans did not get to see this film is not a surprise, but my wife and I were honored to see the film upon its release nearly 27 years ago. It is worth watching today. And will be tomorrow...and thereafter.

An exceptionally well written novelization of a very similar situation is "Dark Tangos" by Lewis Shiner. If you google it you get some discussion by Cory Doctorow at Boing Boing and the book's website, but the author also makes it freely available here:

Anyway, it is well worth a read if this disastrous time is of interest to you.
